The People's Gym · Cork
Who we help
Most people who come to ATP have a reason: a diagnosis, a sore back, a sport, a wedding, a decade they have just entered, or a gym they could never face. We have written a page for each of the ones we see most, so you can read exactly how we would train someone in your position before you ever ring us. All of it happens in coached 30-minute sessions at our Douglas and Ballincollig gyms.
Specialist pages
Find the page written for you
Seven groups, fifty-odd pages. Each one explains the condition or the goal, what a session looks like, how we work with your GP, consultant or physio where that applies, and what it costs.
Bone and joints
Osteoporosis and osteopenia, what to do after a DEXA scan, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, hip and knee replacements, hypermobility, and training past 60.
Pain and injury
Back pain, sciatica, neck and shoulder pain, desk-bound bodies, and the gap between finishing physio and being properly strong again.
Health conditions
Type 2 diabetes and prediabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol, after cancer treatment, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue, long covid, weight loss surgery and GLP-1 medications.
Women's health
Perimenopause and menopause, pregnancy and after, pelvic floor and diastasis, and personal training with a female coach.
Life stages and sport
Beginners, over 40, men over 50, retirement, busy parents, students, shift workers, weddings, and strength and conditioning for GAA, rugby, soccer, golf, tennis, running, cycling, hillwalking, triathlon and swimming.
Before you book
What personal training costs in Cork, what the first session is like, gym anxiety, personal training versus classes, how semi-private 1:2 training works, and training with a friend or partner.
Real Google reviews
From members who started where you are
In their own words, straight from Google.
"ATP is a super place to exercise at your own level for all ages from teens right up to your 70s and beyond. Class sizes are small and the PT section is super relaxed with amazing trainers to help you on your fitness journey. The trainers are super friendly, they know everyone by name and make a huge effort to build a relationship with their clients."
"Great gym, lovely staff who encourage you at every step! Sound advice is always offered and I love that they cater to all ages and abilities! Exercises are modified to suit injuries or abilities and the attention to detail for each client is second to none!"
"Excellent team of knowledgeable and motivating coaches. They can accommodate any level, from complete beginners to advanced athletes. Great stuff"
"Both gyms are warm and welcoming and trainers take the time at the start of each class to check in on the people attending for injuries and energy wise. You are never pushed to beyond your limits but always encouraged to reach your full potential."

FAQ
Questions people ask before booking
If yours is not here, give us a ring. We would rather talk it through.
Do I need a diagnosis or a referral to train with you?
No. Some people come with a diagnosis and a letter, most just come with a goal or a sore bit. If you have advice from a GP, consultant or physio, tell us and we build around it.
Are these pages written by coaches?
They are written from how we actually train people at ATP and checked against the current guidelines for each condition. They are not medical advice, and your GP, consultant or physio's advice always comes first.
How long is a session?
Personal training sessions are 30 minutes. Classes are 45 minutes.
Which gym should I choose?
Whichever is handier. Douglas covers the south side and the city, Ballincollig the west side, CUH and MTU. Any membership works at both.
Can I ask for a female coach?
Yes. Say so when you claim your free session and we will pair you with one.
What if my situation is not on this page?
Tell us anyway. Claim the free session, explain what is going on, and we will say honestly whether we can help.
How much does it cost?
Rolling memberships start at €179 every 4 weeks for two sessions a week, and our no-expiry packs never lapse. Your first session is free, no card and no commitment.
